The CAP Internship programme: FAQs

How many places are there on the CAP Internship programme?

We’re on the lookout for 13 individuals to join our programme in September 2018. Due to the popularity of our programme, we encourage applicants to apply early to avoid disappointment.

Is there a deadline for applications?

The official deadline is in June but we’ll accept applications from November, and continuous recruiting means slots are taken on a first come, first served basis. We don’t want you to miss out, so we recommend you apply as early as possible.

Where is the internship based?

You’ll join over 300 passionate Christians, who share your heart for the poor, at CAP’s lively head office, Jubilee Mill, in Bradford. Here you’ll spend your time working as a key member within part of a department of the charity. Once a week you’ll also take advantage of seminars, coaching and input from the leadership team on development days with others on the programme.

When do interviews take place?

We invite successful applicants to an assessment day in Bradford, which are held between February and July. On this day you’ll have an interview, participate in a group activity and get to experience our head office with a tour. You’ll find more information about upcoming assessment days and deadlines for applications at

Is the internship voluntary or employed?

On the programme you’ll be employed by CAP and paid a basic salary for the hours that you work in your department each week. The training CAP will provide is classed as voluntary as you’ll receive free top quality teaching and investment from a range of leaders within CAP, including regular input from both the Founder and the CEO of the charity. As you’re taking part in the CAP Internship programme, you’ll also be able to apply for our discounted accommodation.

What hours do I work and do I get holidays?

The normal hours of the internship are Monday to Friday, 8:45am to 5pm. This includes 30 hours of department work and additional self development time. There are lots of other optional things you can choose to get involved with as well, such as volunteering at CAP training days and supporter events. You’ll have a mixture of fixed (Christmas and Easter) and flexible holidays throughout the year.

What support do I get for the £3,000 fundraising challenge?

You can raise the agreed fundraising amount over the course of the year. At the beginning of the programme we’ll help you to make a plan for your fundraising and break it down into manageable chunks, which you’ll be confident you can achieve. From our experience helping many previous intakes, we’re well placed to offer ideas, advice and encouragement.

Is there accommodation available?

Yes. We have several houses a short distance from Head Office available exclusively to those on the internship programme from just £300* per month, including bills. Many like to take advantage of sharing with others on the programme in this great value accommodation, but you’re also welcome to make your own arrangements if you’d rather.

What do people go on to do after the internship finishes?

The CAP Internship programme is often a springboard that empowers people to go on and succeed in many different spheres. Many have gone on to work for a range of other charities and churches whilst others have started careers in fields such as engineering, law, IT and accountancy. Some have even gone on to gain jobs at CAP, staying with our team for the longer term.
